Another Possible Part of Speech
I was thinking of including this in the speech as well, closer toward the beginning. It isn't newly written, as I have told this story before, but usually it gets a good response because I play it up with some physical actions. Please listen and let me know if I should keep it or get rid of it.

I liked the baseball story, but I didn't catch on as to how it relates to
your illness other than the loss of playing the next season. Is playing baseball fulfilling for you, even if the team is lousy & you hardly get to play. What did the loss of playing ball mean to you?

Hi Nancy,
The reason why I sometime tell this story (always near the beginning of my speech before I get into the illness part) is to show two things: First, that I was somewhat normal before becoming ill. It shows people I played sports like a typical young man; Second, that I don't take myself too seriously, can joke around a bit, and that in the speech that is to come I won't be laying a heavy burden on them. It is mostly a tactical decision to include it, rather than a content-based decision that will further the understanding of mental illness.
